Scams & Frauds

Tips to help you remain safe while using any online platform.

How To Avoid Being Taken Advantage Of

The purpose of Kinny List is to provide an honest, safe alternative to all other local listing and classified sites. We want you to be successful in finding items that you need or buyers than want the products that you have. That being said, we don’t want anything to happen to you simply because you decided to buy something locally that you found online. Here are some helpful tips to follow to ensure that you have a safe and pleasant experience:

  • Let’s start with always meeting the buyer/seller in person and in a safe location.
  • If you ever receive a message that says you have the ability to or a chance to check your Kinny List messages on a phone, just know it is not real. We don’t offer any voice services.
  • Don't share any personal or financial information with strangers, like bank accounts, or identity numbers.
  • Money orders, and or any type of check can be fake and your Bank will hold you accountable. We offer you the ability to receive payments in crypto and encourage you to send payments using Phantom, all on the Solana blockchain. Always take advantage of the ability to send and receive with a trusted blockchain source. When you have met the buyer/seller in person and agree upon terms and the product is as expected, then you can make your transaction safely with crypto. Remember that your transactions exist between users, the buyer and seller, and no one else is able to guarantee payment for items. The blockchain just allows you to make a safe transaction instead of having to bring money or any other physical source of payment to the meeting, which can put your life in danger.

Realizing Fraud or A Potential Scam

These things might happen when someone is trying to scam you or be a fraudster:

  • It may appear that the sender cannot spell or properly write an email, and it can seem weird or vague.
  • Someone who is not local or near to you sends you a message in one way or another.
  • Meeting in person for closing the transaction is not possible or refused.
  • The person may also refuse to video call or voice chat with you prior to meeting.
  • Payment options could include any known money service like Western Union or a request for bank transfer through various services.
  • The item and amount asked always sounds too good to be true.
  • They might ask you for a deposit prior to mailing you an item but we already suggested that you always meet in person, remember!
  • Don’t agree to sending/receiving payment in any way, shape, or form without first meeting the buyer/seller in person. PERIOD.
